2011 Program and Serving Committees: Altar Committees for 2011: Altar Committee Duties (cont'd):
SPRING: January - Amy Steele, Laurie Balmes FLOWER DUTIES:
1)  Order flowers as needed.  If you wish for WOZ to pay for them, you need to purchase them at Econo-Foods where we have a tax-exempt account.  You can get a charge card from Edna Mattson, Tana Nord, or Kathy Mattson.  The maximum amount to spend is $30 for both vases ($15 for each vase).  You should also sign a receipt which is then attached to the monthly bill to help verify the bill's accuracy.  You may take the liners in and have the floral department personnel arrange the flowers or you may do it yourself.  If you choose to donate altar flowers you may purchase them wherever you would like.
2)  Arrange the flowers in the altar vase liners.  There is a wooden stand to hold the vase liners.  This is used to carry the flowers downstairs where they are kept in the closet under the stairs off of the kitchen.  It is also good to check for adequate water to prolong the life of the flowers.
3) The gold outer vases are left on the altar.
4) Lent:  All candles, except the ones on the altar, are removed, and there are no flowers on the altar until Easter.
5)  All Easter and Christmas flowers (lilies and poinsettias) need to be put out.
6) Altar committee should be informed when flowers are going to be purchased by a member of the congregation and information given to the pastor or church secretary prior to Wednesday morning so it can be put in the bulletin for the Sunday that the flowers will be on the altar.
